Certified translations

When documents from abroad need to be presented in Portugal, certification is done by a translator of good standing who, under oath, swears before a notary, lawyer or consulate general of the country in Portugal, that the translation is faithful to the original document.

When documents originating from Portugal need to be presented in another country, certification is done by a translator of good standing who, under oath, swears before a notary, lawyer, consulate general or chamber of commerce and industry of the country in Portugal, that the translation is faithful to the original document.

When the translation of a document needs to be recognised as an original document abroad, it must also bear the Apostille under the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961.
The Apostille is issued by the Attorney-General of the Portuguese Republic pursuant to Decree-Law no. 48.450 of 24 June 1968.
